This Privacy Policy explains how Patricia O’Rourke collects and uses personal information through patriciaorourke.com.

Patricia O’Rourke is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].

Information we collect

We collect information you provide when you contact us, complete a form, purchase a book, book an event, join a waiting list or subscribe to updates.

This may include your name, email address, telephone number, billing and delivery addresses, purchase details, event bookings, correspondence and book personalisation instructions.

We also collect payment status and transaction references, subscription preferences and records of your consent.

The website may collect technical information, including your IP address, browser and device information, security logs and cookie preferences.

If someone purchases a gift or books an event place for you, we may receive your name and relevant delivery or booking details from that person.

How we use your information

We use your information to process orders, arrange payments, personalise and deliver books, manage bookings, provide event information and respond to enquiries.

We also use information to manage waiting lists, send updates you have requested, maintain business records, prevent fraud and protect the website.

Where necessary to fulfil a purchase or booking, we rely on performing our contract with you. This also covers steps you ask us to take before entering into a contract.

We rely on consent for newsletter subscriptions, waiting-list notifications and optional analytics.

We rely on legal obligations for required tax and accounting records.

For customer support, website security and managing disputes, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the business, where those interests do not override your rights.

Providing the information needed for an order or booking is necessary for us to fulfil it. Marketing subscriptions and optional analytics are not required to make a purchase.

Our website and service providers

Our website uses WordPress and Bricks. Forms, purchases and contact management are handled through Fluent Forms, FluentCart and FluentCRM.

Information entered through these systems is stored within our website infrastructure and may be accessed by authorised hosting, maintenance and technical support providers where necessary to provide their services.

Stripe processes payments and refunds. Stripe receives the information necessary to complete and secure your payment. We receive transaction information and payment confirmations rather than your full payment card number.

Brevo delivers transactional emails, including order confirmations, booking messages and other service communications. This involves processing your email address and the information included in those messages.

We may share delivery information with postal or courier services, relevant booking information with event providers, and necessary records with professional advisers or public authorities.

We do not sell your personal information.

Email communications

We send essential emails about orders, payments, deliveries and event bookings. These are service messages and do not depend on a newsletter subscription.

We send promotional emails only where you have chosen to receive them.

Making a purchase, submitting an enquiry or registering for an event does not automatically subscribe you to general marketing.

You can unsubscribe from promotional emails using the unsubscribe link or by emailing [email protected].

Joining a waiting list allows us to contact you about the opportunity you requested. It does not automatically subscribe you to other marketing.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website and identify ways to improve it.

With your consent, Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, interactions, approximate location, browser and device information, and how you reached the website.

Google Analytics uses online identifiers and cookies. This information is not necessarily anonymous, even though reports generally present combined visitor statistics.

We only enable optional analytics after you consent. You can refuse analytics without losing access to the website or shop.

Cookies

Cookies and similar technologies help operate the shopping basket, checkout, security features and saved preferences.

Essential technologies are used where necessary to provide a service you request. Optional analytics technologies are used with your consent.

Google Analytics cookies include _ga and cookies beginning with ga. These distinguish visitors and maintain session information. Their default expiry is two years, although browser restrictions or website settings may shorten this period.

You can change optional cookie choices through the website’s cookie controls. You can also delete or block cookies through your browser, although blocking essential cookies may affect checkout and other functions.

International processing

Our service providers may process information in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, the United States and other countries where they operate.

Where international transfer protections are required, we rely on applicable adequacy arrangements or approved contractual safeguards, including UK transfer agreements or addenda where appropriate.

You can contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your information.

How long we keep information

We retain information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy.

Purchase, payment and refund records are retained for applicable tax and accounting requirements and, where necessary, to resolve disputes or legal claims.

Enquiries and correspondence are retained while dealing with your request and for any further period needed to resolve related issues.

Waiting-list information is retained while the relevant list remains active. Marketing information is retained while your subscription remains active, subject to reviews of whether it is still needed.

If you unsubscribe, we may keep a minimal record of your email address and preference to prevent further unwanted marketing.

Technical and analytics information is retained according to its purpose, security needs and the applicable service settings. Information that is no longer needed is deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, restrict its use or receive a portable copy of information you have provided.

You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent where we rely on it. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

You can object to direct marketing at any time.

To exercise your rights, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity.

You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. If you live elsewhere, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the website, our services or our handling of personal information. The latest version will be published here.
