Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 4 November 2026
These terms apply to purchases and bookings through patriciaorourke.com, operated by Patricia O’Rourke.
For questions about purchases, bookings or these terms, email [email protected].
Products and events
We sell books and provide talks, workshops and other events.
The relevant product or event page explains what is included, the available options, the price and any attendance requirements. Please read these details before purchasing.
Book photographs are illustrative. Minor differences in screen or print colour do not affect your rights if a product is faulty or materially different from its description.
Prices and payment
Prices are shown in pounds sterling unless stated otherwise and include any applicable taxes.
Delivery charges and other applicable charges are displayed before you confirm payment.
Payments are processed through Stripe using the methods available at checkout.
Changes to advertised prices do not affect purchases we have already accepted.
Orders and confirmation
Please check your contact details, delivery address, book format, event selection and personalisation instructions before paying.
We accept your order or booking when we send an email confirming acceptance. An earlier message that only acknowledges receipt is not acceptance.
If we cannot fulfil an order or booking, we will contact you and refund payment for the unavailable item or place.
If confirmation does not arrive, check your spam folder or contact us before ordering again.
Personalised books
Where personalisation is offered, you can provide a recipient’s name and short dedication using the checkout notes field.
Please check names, spelling and wording carefully. If ordering several copies, identify which dedication belongs in each book.
We may contact you if a request needs clarification.
Books personalised to your instructions are normally excluded from the statutory change-of-mind cancellation right.
This does not affect your rights if a book is faulty, damaged, incorrectly personalised by us or not as described.
A standard author signature alone does not automatically make a book personalised for cancellation purposes.
Delivery and returns
Our Delivery & Returns Policy forms part of these terms and explains delivery arrangements, book cancellations, returns and refunds.
Event bookings
A paid place is confirmed when your booking has been accepted and payment received.
Check the event date, time, location, content and inclusions before booking. Places are subject to availability.
Free events may also require registration. If you cannot attend, please let us know so your place can be offered to someone else.
A waiting-list registration does not reserve a place, guarantee availability or create a payment obligation.
Cancelling your event booking
We offer a full refund for paid event and workshop cancellations received at least seven calendar days before the advertised start time.
For later cancellations, refunds depend on whether we can resell your place and any reasonable, unavoidable losses caused by the cancellation. We will explain any deduction and will not retain payment for losses avoided or recovered through resale.
Contact us before the event if you would like someone else to attend instead. Transfers require our confirmation and are subject to the event’s attendance requirements.
The statutory 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right does not normally apply to leisure events booked for a specific date. Any statutory cancellation rights that do apply remain available.
Event cancellations and changes
If we cancel an event, you are entitled to a full refund of the booking amount paid to us.
If we reschedule an event or significantly change its location or content, we will explain the change and offer you the choice of accepting it or receiving a refund.
You do not have to accept credit towards another event instead of a refund.
Please contact us about any other losses arising from a cancellation. Your legal rights remain unaffected.
Accessibility and participation
Please contact us before booking if you need information about access, participation requirements or advertised catering.
Talks and workshops offer creative exploration and general inspiration. They do not replace individual medical, psychological or other professional advice.
Website content
Unless otherwise stated, original writing, poems, photographs and other website content belong to Patricia O’Rourke or are used with permission.
You may view and print content for personal use. Reproduction, republication or commercial use requires permission unless otherwise permitted by law.
Problems and complaints
Email [email protected] with your order or booking details and a description of the problem. We will investigate and work towards an appropriate resolution.
Nothing in these terms reduces your statutory consumer rights or excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
Applicable law
These terms are governed by the law of Northern Ireland.
Consumers living elsewhere retain any mandatory protections available under the law of their country of residence and any right to bring proceedings in their local courts.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version supplied when you placed your order or booking applies to that purchase.
